What better way to move into the year than by staring determinedly backward at the year that was? I did several write-ups about the Fall 2017 season and the year in anime as a whole, as well as some podcasting for those of you looking for an audio […]
I am incredibly proud of this piece–perhaps one of the best I’ve ever written. If it leads to new awareness in the industry, I’ll be happy. Land of the Lustrous has proven to be a sleeper hit of the Fall 2017 season, with its beautiful melding of CG and […]
When people remember this show as being really, really bad? THESE are the episodes they’re remembering. It’s worse than I remembered, too. And I already remembered a lot.
The season’s a full half over, so it’s time for a temperature check on how things are going. In short: new Kino let me down, Magus Bride makes me uncomfortable (but the OVA is still good), Konohana Kitan sure is a yuri anime for the male gaze, and […]

Once upon a time I read one of the seminal 90s shoujo series (I…read a lot of Yu Watase, actually). It sucked me in and made me real mad, and then I didn’t think about it for a long time. And I never watched the anime. When I […]
More premieres! Featuring my far-and-away pick of the season. Like last time, I have a quick sum-up of the review and a link to the longer one if you want a more detailed breakdown.
