It’s that time of year again! I’m absolutely crushed under the weight of the premieres this season–good and bad. Here’s the first batch, summarized in a sentence with links to the longer review, and you can look forward to more in the coming week.
The seasonal trash pick was first out the gate. It’s stylish, it’s stupid as fuck, and it promises to have buckets of blood. Also DO YOU SEE THIS BUNNY MAN.
Undeniably stylish and with glimpses of a quality sense of absurd humor but hard up for conflict and I don’t really like the leads, at least right now.
It’s like watching a fanfic crossover where you get none of the references, and the writers aren’t interested in letting you in on the joke. Also, that art. Look at it.
Voiced by and about idols. It’s been a long time since I saw something that was so nakedly a cash grab.
A really strong slice of life premiere that I’m slightly worried will turn into “but does my crush like me baaaaaack?”
I didn’t think it was possible to make a gore anime that I wasn’t here for, but here we are.
Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World
Still doing what the original did well–quiet and suspenseful. Also the subtitlers fucked up with a nongendered character again.
It’s not great at executing the “innocence in an ugly world” theme, but there’s enough promise for me to give it one more episode.
